How to choose a fragrance as a gift
Choosing a perfume or attar for someone else, by budget and by person: what to pick when you don't know their taste, and the sizes that make it easy.

A fragrance is one of the most personal gifts you can give, which is exactly what makes it hard to choose. The good news is that you do not need to know someone's taste perfectly. You need a sensible family, the right size, and a little honesty about what you are buying. This is how we help people choose at the counter.
If you don't know their taste
Choose a soft, easy family over a bold one. Musk and light florals are hard to dislike; deep oud and very sweet scents divide people. A small size takes the pressure off, too: if it does not become their favourite, little is wasted.
If you can, find out one smell they already love — a perfume they wear, a flower, a sweet, a memory. That alone narrows things down a great deal. Our guide to fragrance families shows how to get from a smell someone loves to a scent they will wear.
By budget
Prices move with offers, so the cards below always show today's price. As a rough guide:
Under ₹500
A 3 ml attar or an 8 ml House Parfum. Small, but a complete gift — and the kindest way to let someone try a scent. Good for colleagues, cousins, and Eid gifts for a big family.
₹500 to ₹1,500
A 6 ml attar, or a 50 ml or 100 ml House Parfum — a bottle sized for everyday wear, for a friend, a sibling or a parent.
A gift to remember
An extrait de parfum, the house's deepest work, in a 50 or 100 ml bottle. For a wedding, a milestone, or someone who already loves fragrance and will notice the difference.
By person
- For him. Fresh and woody for daytime — Neel or Sahra. For a man who already wears attar, a classic oud such as Kashmiri Oud. More in For Him.
- For her. Florals from soft to sweet: Nazeen for peony over a soft musk, Gulzar for bright florals, Shab for an evening scent of coffee and vanilla. More in For Her.
- For parents and elders. An alcohol-free attar is often the most welcome gift — familiar, close-wearing and right for prayer. Oud Ameer Attar or Kasturi Mushk Attar.
- For a couple, or a shared shelf. Something unisex, like White Oud or Amber Leather. More in Unisex.

Attar or spray?
Both make good gifts, for different people. An attar suits someone who prefers a close, quiet scent, wears fragrance to prayer, or simply grew up with attar at home. A spray suits someone who already wears perfume and likes to be noticed as they walk into a room. If you cannot tell which they are, think about what is on their dressing table now — a row of small glass roll-ons, or a spray bottle.
Not sure what the difference amounts to on the skin? Our guide to attar vs perfume explains it in a few minutes.
By occasion
For Eid and other gifts for prayer, attar is the traditional choice, and every PXM house attar is alcohol-free. For Diwali and winter weddings, warmer scents carry well in the cool air: oud, amber and the richer florals. For a birthday, go by the person rather than the date.
